The food options in Victoria are simply too numerous to make decision-making easy on such a short visit. We were in town for no more than five minutes when we spotted The Noodle Box and knew we had to break for lunch, hungry or not. Eating Noodle Box on the steps of the inner harbour, with the beautiful Victorian legislative buildings for scenery, is a pivotal Victorian experience, one I've had before, and a good way to commence our trip. I was disappointed to discover that the Spicy Peanut and Teriyaki boxes contain gluten, even when rice noodles are substituted for wheat; but no Noodle Box is a bad Noodle Box.
With boxes-full of noodles under our belts, it took several hours of walking and a lot of mental preparation to convince ourselves that we were ready for dinner by 8 o'clock, when we headed to ReBar for another classic Victorian feast. ReBar existed in my imagination long before I'd ever set foot in Victoria. Returning from business trips, my dad would bring me stories of ReBar's tasty treats and, eventually, a copy of the restaurant's recipe book.
Sadly, my one previous trip to ReBar was rather disappointing. But since I've liked every recipe I've made from the book, I was ready to give it a second chance. My disappointment was not repeated. I had a tasty wild rice & quinoa salad and an order of their superb yam fries with basil aioli; my glass of apple, strawberry, lime, and ginger juice was phenomenal.
We finished the day with over-priced, delicious gelato (thank goodness for dairy-free sorbetto) and a couple of stomach-aches.
This morning we ate breakfast here, at our B&B, with our jolly British hostess. The problem, of course, remains: how do I pick today's food destinations? What shall it be?
A pizzeria offering vegan and gluten-free pizzas?
A Mexican joint with cheap and tasty tacos, on all-corn tortillas?
All day breakfast, with West Coast twists?
Or any number of hippie-oriented restaurants and cafes, serving vegan, raw, and gluten-free goodies?
Sigh. I wish I had more stomachs.

You could always gut a passer-byer and use their stomach to hold things. And their skull would make a good cup!
The effects of that Dethklok concert clearly linger.
oh god i wish i had a noodle box right now. or a john's place breakfast complete with cream cheese syrup. or some fish and chips from any lovely pub in victoria. but i did just finish a guatemala breakfast of beans, crema and scrambled eggs with onion and tomatoes. and tortillas of course. so freaking good. i hope your victorian food adventures ended well, and that you stuffed as much food in as possible.
